About the Course

This course aims to provide insight into the prevalence and nature of domestic violence. Successful candidates will understand what domestic violence is, be able to identify common indicators of abuse, and will understand the difficulties and challenges associated with leaving an abusive relationship, enabling them to provide help and support to victims.

How do we define the term domestic violence?
How does domestic violence occur?
Why does domestic violence and abuse happen?
Who the perpetrators and victims are: the statistics and the myths surrounding domestic abuse
Who is at risk?
Identifying signs and indicators that domestic violence is happening in a family
How victims respond to abuse, and why they respond in such ways
How to appropriately respond to signs and allegations of domestic violence
Identifying the services that are available to provide help to victims of abuse on both a local and national scale
